Robert Smith, a native of New Kensington, Pennsylvania is a 1969 graduate of Kent State University with a B.S. in Accounting.
Smith began his career with U.S. Steel Corporation in 1969 at Gary Works in Gary, Indiana finishing his tour there as Staff Supervisor of Analysis and Statistics. In 1976, he became District Credit Manager in Chicago, covering sales offices in St. Louis; Kansas City, MO; and Indianapolis.
In 1980 Smith became U.S. Steel’s first participant in the President’s Executive Exchange program. During the one-year assignment, he served as Assistant to the Director of the Federal Energy Commission in Washington, D. C.
In 1981 Smith returned to U.S. Steel in Pittsburgh, PA, as Manager - Operations Planning for the company’s domestic steel operations. In 1985 he went to U. S. Steel’s Fairfield Works in Fairfield, Alabama as Manager – Accounting.
Smith came to USS-POSCO Industries as Vice President - Administration and Finance in 1990. He remained in that position until becoming Vice President – Commercial, the position he held prior to his appointment as President in January of 1998.
Smith is a member of the American Management Association, the American Iron and Steel Institute, the Senior Executives Network, the President's Executive Exchange Alumni Association and the Commonwealth Club of California.
He and his wife Linda reside in Walnut Creek, CA. His interests include golf, computers, woodworking, gardening and piano. |
