Alan Gardner, a native of Los Angeles, California is a 1974 graduate of California State University, Fullerton, earning a B.A. in Business Administration with an emphasis in Accounting. Alan began his accounting career in 1973 as a Junior Cost Accountant, and over the next 27 years held a variety of financial management positions with progressively more responsibility. Prior to joining USS-POSCO Industries (UPI), Alan was the Accounting Manager for Royal Trucking, a privately held interstate trucking company with annual revenues in excess of $50 million. As Accounting Manager, he was responsible for the overall direction of the accounting department and for all financial reporting to company management and the external Certified Public Accountant.
Alan began his career at UPI in June, 2000 as the Accounting Manager – Cost and Analysis. In 2002, he assumed the position of Manager of Accounting, assuming responsibility for all accounting functions at UPI and directing a staff of 11 management and clerical employees. A major accomplishment during this period was the appeal of the company’s property tax assessments, resulting in a reduction of property taxes amounting to $1.5 million annually.
Effective June 1, 2010, Gardner was promoted to the position of Vice President – Administration & Finance, treasurer, reporting to Robert Smith, President.
Alan and his wife Alison live in Brentwood, CA. The Gardners have one grown son, Michael, currently residing in Denver. |
